Abhay Maheshwari, the visionary owner of The Shergarh Resort, is a shining example of determination, resilience, and success. Born in a humble village near Ranthambore (Sawai Madhopur), his life began with immense challenges. Financial struggles in his family forced him to abandon his education after grade 8. At a young age, he left his home, determined to carve a better future for himself and his family.

In 1998, as Ranthambore’s tourism industry was just beginning to bloom and opportunities were scarce, Abhay found his first foothold in survival. He started as a hawker near the park entrance, selling souvenirs like T-shirts, caps, and tiger paintings to safari visitors. Every day was a struggle, but he persevered, fueled by his dream to do more and be more.

For years, Abhay worked tirelessly, saving every penny and searching for ways to grow. His unyielding efforts eventually bore fruit when he opened a small budget hotel with just a few rooms near the park gate. It wasn’t much, but it was a start—a symbol of how far he had come from being a hawker.

That modest establishment gradually evolved into The Shergarh Resort, one of Ranthambore’s most renowned retreats. Today, the resort is not only a testament to Abhay’s hard work but also his commitment to his roots. All 35 staff members at Shergarh come from the same local village where his journey began, creating jobs and opportunities for the community.

The resort also houses a small craft shop, where every product is handmade by local women, showcasing and supporting the region’s vibrant handicraft traditions. Through his work, Abhay has not only transformed his own life but has also empowered countless others in his village.
